Frequently asked questions.
What is hapé? (pronounced ha-PAY or ra-PAY)
Hapé is typically a combination of mapacho (some blends do not contain this herb), other specific Amazonian herbs, and ashes, prepared according to a very detailed process by an expert herbalist. Many of the Amazonian tribes have unique recipes and blends, some of which have been used as far back as their history can trace. Hapé is applied through the nostrils, either by one’s self or from another with a unique applicator that allows the delivery by breath and ideally, with clear intention.
Why do people use hapé?
Hapé is prepared in a sacred way and meant to be used intentionally as such. There are several different effects and beneficial properties to using hapé, which will be different depending on the blend or herbs used. People use hapé in some sort of ritualistic fashion, sometimes before or during a ceremonial setting, or in daily life in coordination with meditation. Hapé can help people ground, focus, and have a reset.
Is hapé psychedelic?
No. At least not the blends that we sell. There are some “snuffs” which contain psychoactive ingredients, such as yopo, but ours are strictly herbal. While the hapé application can be strong and have specific sensations, they are not considered psychotropic.
What is the best way to incorporate hapé into my spiritual practice?
This will be something that you get to determine after getting to know your unique relationship to the blends you connect with. Some people use daily, while others reserve for ceremonial times. Some people use with their meditation practice as a way to quiet and focus the mind, while others use when needed to clear, ground, reset your nervous system, clear the respiratory tract, or other spiritual qualities of inner vision, dreaming, and intuition.
